LET ME ENTERTAIN YOU
笨蕉大劇院 Lyric Theatre, APA [2025]
Set Design by Ruby Law
Let Me Entertain You follows a theatre company, led by Sir Bo, as they prepare for the premiere of their 30th-anniversary production The Murder Case on the Snow Mountain. Hoping to reclaim their past glory, the company stages an ambitious performance that quickly blurs the boundaries between theatre and reality.
The set design imagines the interior of the company’s own theatre. Its walls are lined with props, costumes, and relics collected over decades, forming a living archive of the troupe’s history.
At the start, a towering snow-covered mountain fills the stage: the grand set for the anniversary play. But as the story unfolds, the production spirals out of control. One audience member, disturbed by the show’s descent into commercial spectacle, storms the stage and seizes control. Proclaiming himself the “professional audience,” he rewrites the performance according to his own ideals of good theatre.
As chaos and creativity intertwine, the snow mountain begins to fall apart, revealing the theatre beneath. By the end, only the bare bones of the stage remain, a metaphorical unmasking of illusion. The design supports this journey between illusion and truth, past and present, through shifting layers of space and revealing hidden elements as the story evolves.
